A firewall provides protection from direct attacks on your computer over the internet. If you have broadband you NEED a firewall or your computer will quickly be compromised and used to send millions of spam emails, launch attacks on other people's computers, and any secret details you use on your site can be copied by criminals.

If you regularly get simple but annoying advertising messages popping up when you use the computer they are probably reaching you because you don't have a firewall. We recommend the ZoneAlarm product- it does a great job.

Just install it and follow the instructions it provides.

If you have several computers it can be worthwhile getting a hardware firewall- they provide continuous protection to your computers (even when you rebuild them), are reasonably cheap, and are almost impossible for hackers to break through.
